GRIT Technologies Hosts St. Clair TEC: A Real-World Computer Networking and Cybersecurity Field Trip
Last week, GRIT Technologies had the pleasure of hosting 30 students from the St. Clair County Regional Educational Service Agency’s Computer Networking and Cybersecurity program for an engaging field trip. This event was a unique opportunity for these future IT professionals to experience firsthand what a career in computer networking and cybersecurity looks like.
What Students Learned About Computer Networking and Cybersecurity
The field trip was designed to immerse students in the world of computer networking and cybersecurity. They toured our offices at GRIT Technologies and heard directly from three of our experienced team members. The students learned about:
- Service Desk Operations: What it’s like to be the first line of defense in IT support, solving real problems for clients daily.
- Networking Engineering: The critical role of networking engineers in designing, maintaining, and securing business networks.
- Low Voltage, Security Doors, and Access Control: How these physical security measures integrate with IT systems to protect businesses, a crucial aspect of comprehensive cybersecurity.
By seeing these roles in action, students gained a better understanding of how computer networking and cybersecurity professionals keep businesses running smoothly and securely.
Real-World Cybersecurity: MDR, EDR, and AI in Action
A highlight of the day was the deep dive into real-world cybersecurity practices. Students discovered how Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), and artificial intelligence are being used by GRIT Technologies to protect high-profile clients from evolving cyber threats. These are not just industry buzzwords-MDR and EDR are at the core of modern cybersecurity strategies, and AI is rapidly becoming an essential tool for identifying and mitigating threats faster than ever before.
Hands-On Learning and Career Insights
Throughout the field trip, students asked thoughtful questions and participated in hands-on learning activities. Our team was impressed by their curiosity and engagement. The event sparked real conversations about what a career in computer networking and cybersecurity entails, from technical skills to the importance of ongoing training and awareness.
“By exposing students to a variety of cybersecurity topics and providing them with engaging, hands-on activities, they develop a strong foundation in understanding the importance of online safety and security.”
Building the Future of Computer Networking and Cybersecurity
At GRIT Technologies, we believe in supporting the next generation of IT and cybersecurity professionals. Hosting the St. Clair TEC students was a reminder of how bright the future of computer networking and cybersecurity truly is. We’re proud to contribute to their education and help them envision their place in this dynamic field.
A big thank you to St. Clair TEC for visiting us. The future of computer networking and cybersecurity looks brighter than ever!
